Mobility and Spinal Health in later life

Mobility and Spinal Health in later life

February 25, 20252 min read

Whilst many of the issues faced by older patients are very similar to those of a younger age, there are some notable differences, including loss of mobility and joint stiffness.

Poor posture, repetitive strain, sports injuries (new or old) or simply getting older can reduce our mobility, which in turn prevents us from living life as we want.

Very often we’re dealing with some arthritic joints and may also have some degree of osteopenia or osteoporosis (a decrease in calcium in the bones) to contend with. Causes of problems are often quite different too. Maturity brings with it less likelihood of a rugby injury, for example, but a greater risk of degenerative changes in the joints.

We use a combination of chiropractic, osteopathy, osteomyology and massage therapy to identify and treat joint or muscular problems that are the cause of limited movement. We’ll recommend a course of treatment, individually tailored to your needs, to gradually increase movement and help to reduce any associated pain with the affected area.

Whilst, as we get older, there is a greater risk of other joint issues in areas such as knees, feet, elbows, shoulders etc. ; there is a great deal that can be done to help.

On-site X-ray and Computerised Scanning

With our on-site x-ray, we can determine the degree of degeneration as well as gain some indication about bone density and other diagnostic criteria.

In addition, we use scanning technology, where necessary, to reveal information about nerve irritation and muscle tension in the spine.

Act now and improve the rest of your life

It’s worth pointing out that a number of our regular, older wellbeing community members do remarkably well for their age. We have many in their 70’s and 80’s for whom age is not a limitation. They take part in walks, dance classes, go sailing, take foreign holidays and generally have more active lifestyles than some half their age!

The good news is you’re never too old to benefit from your spine and nervous system functioning better. Your health is your most precious possession, so take care of it. Call now.
