Spinal Health Care for Children and Babies
Sometimes people are surprised to see us adjusting a baby or young child in our centre
However children and babies can get problems too. Difficult or complicated births can have consequences for the baby’s spine and well-being with children encountering problems as they grow. Therefore good spinal health in childhood can help reduce problems as they grow and later on in life.

Babies
Signs of spinal dysfunction may include not being able to settle, trapped wind (both ends), excessive crying in certain positions, constipation, reflux, regurgitation/vomiting, as well as failure to latch on or feed well.
We love taking care of babies and children at Norwich Spinal Health to give them a great start in life, by addressing issues related to birth and beyond. Whatever the age of your child, chiropractic and/or osteopathy can be a safe and effective therapy.
Spinal health for children and babies, Norwich Spinal Health
Our practitioners are experienced at treating babies and children, using gentle techniques for maximum effect.
For babies, we understand that it is important for them to feel relaxed and at ease during the treatment, so we make the time to connect with them.
For mums, we have a welcome area to relax in, why not treat yourself to a cappuccino or a hot chocolate?
If you have a small child with you, we have a compact kids area where your child can play whilst you and baby have treatment. We want your appointments to be stress free!
First of all, we carry out a paediatric examination to check your baby’s or child’s spine and assess any postural, muscular or spinal imbalances. We then make a treatment plan to correct any problems we’ve found, taking into account any need for preventative checks and advice for the health of your little one, to give you peace of mind.
Mums can also benefit, as we can offer an assessment of any structural changes that may have occurred during pregnancy, labour, and/or delivery. Help in this early stage after the birth can be very beneficial.
Growing Up
Some sources quote that as many as 47% of children are dropped on their head in their first year of life! If we add to this the frequent bumps and bangs that children experience learning to walk, you can see that there is potential for spinal strains. Winding forward to teenage years, not addressing the issues of long-term use of laptops, mobile phones and games consoles – and particularly the poor posture associated with it – can be detrimental to growing spines. Not to mention the weight of school books and back-packs which can all put a load on a developing spine.

How we treat Children and Babies at Norwich Spinal Health
The methods we use to adjust a baby or small child are different to those used on a fully grown adult. Taking care of babies as young as a day old, we use gentle techniques that are appropriate for their small bodies. With young children, we are equally proficient at using the appropriate techniques for them at their stage of development. With our experience in using gentle chiropractic, osteopathy and massage techniques, we find that some babies even sleep right through their treatment. Many parents report that their little ones enjoy coming to our centre.
